2.1 Materials
- HACKER SOUND MAT II supplied by Hacker Industries, Inc.
- FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concretes supplied by Hacker Industries, Inc.
PART III EXECUTION
3.1 Condition of Subfloor
- Subfloor must be structurally sound (L/360), broom cleaned, and free of oil, grease or other contaminants.
- Before installation, General Contractor (GC) shall inspect and approve the condition of the subfloor.
3.2 Preparation of the Subfloor
- All cracks and voids shall be filled with a quick-setting taping compound to prevent leakage.
3.3 Installation of Hacker Sound Mat II
- Install Hacker Sound Mat II per manufacturer's specifications and recommendations. Contact Hacker Industries, Inc. for specifications.
- A Perimeter Isolation Strip shall be properly installed around the perimeter of the entire floor, including any openings in the subfloor installation.
- Protect HACKER SOUND MAT II from trade traffic prior to the installation of FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete.
3.4 Underlayment Application
- Scheduling: Application of FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete shall not begin until the building is enclosed. Install after drywall, unless otherwise specified. If HACKER SOUND MAT II is to be installed before drywall, a 3.4 lb per sq. yd. galvanized metal lath or specified reinforcement shall be laid over the entire HACKER SOUND MAT II surface.
- Taping and seams shall be checked and approved by the GC prior to the installation of FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete.
- The minimum thickness of FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete over HACKER SOUND MAT II shall be a minimum of 1-1/4" (32mm) or reinforced or as specified measured from the highest point. Minimum compressive strengths shall be 1800 psi (see recommended specifications).
- Extreme care must be taken when rolling out the hose so that HACKER SOUND MAT II is not torn or punctured.
- Drying: The GC shall provide continuous ventilation and adequate heat to rapidly remove moisture from the area until the underlayment is dry. If necessary, GC shall provide mechanical ventilation. Do not install finished floor coverings until the FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete is tested for dryness. Consult flooring contractor for recommended procedures to test for dryness and acceptable levels of moisture. To avoid potential problems during the drying process, the GC shall consult Hacker Industries, Inc.'s Drying Conditions Flyer and information contained on Hacker Industries, Inc.'s website for additional information concerning drying of the FIRM-FILL® Brand Gypsum Concrete.
3.5 Preparation for Installation of Floor Coverings
- Sealing: Any areas where the underlayment surface has been damaged shall be cleaned and sealed regardless of specified floor covering. The floor covering manufacturers' specifications and requirements supercede these recommendations.
- Floor Covering Procedures: Please see Hacker Industries, Inc.'s "Guidelines for Installing Finished Floor Coverings." The guideline is not a warranty and shall be used as a guideline only. Also see ASTM F2419.
3.6 Field Quality Control
- Slump Test: Hacker Floor Underlayment shall be tested for slump as it is being installed using a 2" by 4" (51mm by 102mm) cylinder.
- Field Samples: Testing of molded cube samples shall be in accordance with ASTM C472 modified, using split brass molds. Prior to independent sampling contact Hacker Industries, Inc., to insure proper ASTM methods are followed.
APPLICATION NOTES:
Extreme care must be taken when rolling out the hose so that the HACKER SOUND MAT II is not torn. Do not wear spiked shoes. Do not use nails to gauge materials depths.
The Hacker Floor Underlayment should be installed with a tight slump to minimize the drying time.
Do not puncture the HACKER SOUND MAT II with any metal fasteners or other metal equipment: metal punctures may cause neutralization of HACKER SOUND MAT II's acoustical properties.
