Every June, members of the Builder's Association of Elkhart County come together to present their work at the annual Parade of Homes. The 39th Annual Parade of Homes included 31 homes scattered throughout northern Indiana. One home in Bristol, Indiana is sure to make the long winters more comfortable and warm. The 7,443 square foot, French country- style home is equipped with many new and innovative features including a radiant heat system that covers the entire home.

In the search for a product that would provide warm, comfortable floors and uniform heat, General Contractor Addco Builders selected GYP- SPAN® Radiant gypsum concrete floor underlayment. Known for its inherent high strength and energy efficiency, GYP-SPAN® Radiant provided a radiant heat system that ensured even heat transfer in every room.

Installed by Gypsum Floor Systems, LLC of Goshen, Indiana, a Licensed Applicator of Hacker and member of the Builders' Association, GYP-SPAN® Radiant was poured 1-1/2" thick over Wirsbo hydronic tubing. Kevin Pierson, project manager of Gypsum Floor Systems, LLC, noted "A radiant heat floor system using GYP-SPAN® Radiant offers homeowners numerous benefits including comfort, energy efficiency, and reliability."

Tim Thomas, project manager for Addco Builders commented, "With the increase of natural gas costs, we were focusing on alternative heating systems with minimal heating expenses. We found that GYP-SPAN® Radiant provided the perfect solution. GYP-SPAN® Radiant also kept the hydronic tubes in place during construction. The non-shrinkage chemistry of the material also prevented the cracks, noise, and tube chafing that are often found with other floor underlayments.

Gypsum Floor Systems' four-man crew was able to pour the entire house in one day allowing construction to stay on schedule. The finished floor provided a smooth, flat and durable surface for the installation of finished floor goods. Addco Builders covered the GYP-SPAN® Radiant with a variety of floor coverings including hardwood, tile and carpet.

GYP-SPAN® Radiant is a cementitious floor underlayment designed to cover the hydronic tubes or electric cables in a radiant heating system. When installed over the heat source, it seals the room's perimeter and adheres to the tubes or cables, spreading heat evenly throughout the floor without hot spots. GYP-SPAN® Radiant dries without shrinkage cracks and provides a smooth, flat, energy efficient thermal mass on which finished floor goods can be easily attached.
