GBL Construction Company/ Masonic Village

In 1999, The Masonic Homes of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania purchased a 128-bed nursing facility on 50 acres of rolling hills in the Aleppo Township of Western Pennsylvania. Their desire was to create the Masonic Village at Sewickley, a retirement community focusing on the physical, social, mental and spiritual needs of their residents through quality accommodations, services and health care.

To create this community, extensive renovations and additions to the existing campus began in 2001 with the help of GBL Construction Company, a Licensed Applicator of Hacker Floor Underlayments. GBL Construction Company was chosen by NDC Builders LLC to install 58,000 square feet of FIRM-FILL® 4010 gypsum concrete floor underlayment in the first phase of construction to create 263 retirement living apartments and villas.

FIRM-FILL® 4010 is a cementitious floor underlayment designed for thin capping of concrete in new construction and over damaged concrete in renovation projects. When used over precast concrete plank, it acts as a fire and heat retardant over the joints while smoothing them. FIRM-FILL® 4010 achieves extraordinary compressive strengths up to 5500 psi, possesses superior STC and IIC sound ratings and is an integral part of over 83 UL listings.

During Phase I of construction, GBL Construction Company installed up to 20,000 square feet of FIRM-FILL® 4010 a day at 3/4" thickness over the original precast concrete plank, creating a smooth, flat surface ready for the installation of finished floor goods.

NDC Builders, LLC, already pleased with previous work done by GBL Construction Company and delighted with the results of the FIRM-FILL® 4010 installation at the Masonic Lodge, has already signed them on to Phase II, III and IV of this project, which will require an additional 200,000 square feet of FIRM-FILL® 4010.
